Cordyline australis, commonly known as the cabbage tree, is a striking New Zealand native admired for its bold form and adaptability. With its tall, slender trunk and fountain-like crown of long, sword-shaped leaves, this architectural plant adds height and drama to gardens and landscapes. In spring to early summer, mature plants produce large clusters of sweetly scented white flowers, attracting birds and pollinators. Hardy to a range of conditions, including wind, coastal exposure, and light frost, Cordyline australis is a low-maintenance option for both native and contemporary plantings.
