Ulmus Glabra Horizontalis “Horizontal Elm”

Ulmus glabra ‘Horizontalis’ — Horizontal Elm

Distinctive Deciduous Form: Horizontal Elm develops a striking, layered growth habit with branches that extend broadly and horizontally from the trunk. Its architectural shape makes it an impressive feature tree with strong winter structure.

Fresh Green Foliage: Large, textured green leaves create a dense canopy through spring and summer, providing excellent visual impact and welcome shade. The foliage adds a lush, full appearance during the warmer months.

Attractive Autumn Colour: As temperatures cool, the green foliage changes to warm golden-yellow shades before dropping for winter. The bare branching structure then becomes a feature in its own right.

Excellent Feature Tree: Its unusual horizontal branching makes this elm particularly well suited to lawns, avenues, parks, large gardens, and open landscapes where its broad form can be appreciated.

Sun-Loving & Adaptable: Horizontal Elm performs best in full sun with fertile, well-drained soil and regular moisture while establishing. Once settled, it is a robust tree capable of providing long-term landscape value.

Architectural & Majestic: With its distinctive spreading canopy, attractive foliage, autumn colour, and strong winter silhouette, this elm provides year-round structural interest and makes a memorable statement in larger landscapes.
