Platanus × acerifolia ‘London Plane’

Strong & Impressive Growth: London Plane develops into a large, vigorous deciduous tree with a broad, spreading crown and a sturdy central trunk. Its substantial form makes it particularly well suited to spacious landscapes where a strong vertical and overhead presence is desired.

Large Green Foliage: Broad, maple-like leaves emerge fresh green in spring and create a dense canopy through the warmer months. The large leaves provide excellent shade and give the tree a bold, substantial appearance.

Warm Autumn Tones: During autumn, the foliage gradually changes from green to attractive yellow, gold, and warm brown shades before falling. This seasonal change adds colour and highlights the tree’s impressive branching structure.

Distinctive Mottled Bark: One of the London Plane’s most recognisable features is its attractive bark. As the outer bark flakes away, cream, olive, grey, and brown tones are revealed, creating a mottled pattern that becomes increasingly striking with age.

Excellent Shade & Feature Tree: A highly versatile choice for parks, avenues, large gardens, streetscapes, lifestyle properties, and open lawns. Its broad canopy and strong structure make it an excellent specimen where generous growing space is available.

Sun-Loving & Adaptable: London Plane performs best in full sun and adapts well to a range of well-drained soils. Once established, it is known for its toughness and ability to cope with urban conditions, making it a reliable option for demanding landscape situations.

Grand & Long-Lived: Combining vigorous growth, large attractive foliage, distinctive bark, and a powerful winter framework, London Plane brings lasting structure and character to the landscape. Its mature size and commanding presence make it a memorable tree for spacious settings.
