Magnolia ‘Black Tulip’

Elegant Upright Growth: Magnolia ‘Black Tulip’ develops into a handsome, upright deciduous tree with a refined branching structure. Its relatively compact form makes it an excellent choice for gardens, entrances, courtyards, and feature planting where a strong vertical accent is desired.

Rich Burgundy-Tulip Flowers: In early spring, the bare branches are adorned with large, tulip-shaped flowers in deep burgundy to almost black-purple tones. The dramatic blooms create an impressive display before the fresh foliage fully emerges.

Early Spring Impact: Flowering takes place on mostly bare branches, allowing the richly coloured blooms to stand out clearly against the developing landscape. Its early-season display provides a striking focal point after winter and signals the arrival of spring.

Fresh Green Summer Foliage: Following flowering, attractive green leaves emerge to form a neat canopy through the warmer months. The foliage provides a fresh backdrop to the tree’s branching structure and helps maintain its appeal beyond the flowering period.

Beautiful Seasonal Structure: As a deciduous magnolia, ‘Black Tulip’ offers interest throughout the year, from its dramatic spring flowers to its leafy summer canopy and elegant winter framework. The open structure of the branches remains attractive when the tree is dormant.

Outstanding Feature Tree: A superb selection for specimen planting, garden beds, lawns, courtyards, entrances, and lifestyle properties. Its distinctive dark flowers make it particularly effective when positioned where the spring display can be appreciated up close.

Sun-Loving & Easy to Grow: Performs best in full sun to a lightly sheltered position with fertile, well-drained soil. Providing protection from harsh winds and late frosts can help preserve its attractive spring flowers.

Striking & Sophisticated: Magnolia ‘Black Tulip’ combines an elegant growth habit with exceptionally deep-coloured spring blooms, making it a memorable ornamental tree. Its sophisticated appearance and seasonal performance make it an excellent choice for adding colour and character to the garden.
