Distinctive Tree Fern: Dicksonia squarrosa, commonly known as the Rough Tree Fern or Whekī, is admired for its slender, dark, fibrous trunk and crown of elegant, bright-green fronds, bringing a lush, tropical feel to the garden.

Upright, Architectural Form: Its tall, narrow trunk and spreading foliage create attractive vertical structure, while new growth can emerge around the base to form natural clusters of stems for a woodland-inspired effect.

Lush Evergreen Foliage: The finely divided, arching fronds provide vibrant green colour and delicate texture throughout the year, creating a dense, layered appearance that complements a wide range of shade-loving plants.

Excellent Feature Plant: With its distinctive trunk and graceful canopy, Dicksonia squarrosa makes an eye-catching specimen for shaded courtyards, fern gardens, woodland plantings, tropical-style landscapes, and sheltered garden borders.

Ideal for Shaded Gardens: This adaptable tree fern thrives in partial to full shade in moist, humus-rich soil. Regular moisture and protection from strong, drying winds help maintain healthy foliage and encourage vigorous growth.

Year-Round Garden Appeal: Its evergreen crown, textured trunk, and ability to develop multiple stems provide lasting structure and natural character, making it an excellent choice for creating a lush, layered garden in New Zealand.
