Dysoxylum spectabile (Kohekohe)

Beautiful Native Evergreen: Kohekohe is a distinctive New Zealand native tree with a naturally upright to spreading habit and attractive glossy green foliage. Its evergreen canopy provides structure and colour throughout the year.

Distinctive Flowers: During the cooler months, clusters of small, creamy-white flowers emerge directly from the branches and trunk, creating an unusual and eye-catching display. The flowers can be followed by small, attractive fruit.

Glossy Foliage & Strong Form: Large, polished green leaves form a lush canopy that gives Kohekohe a sophisticated appearance. Its branching structure adds character and provides an appealing feature in both native and contemporary landscapes.

Excellent Native Feature Tree: A wonderful choice for larger home gardens, coastal properties, native plantings, restoration projects, and sheltered landscape positions. It works particularly well as a specimen tree where its distinctive flowering can be appreciated.

Sheltered & Easy Care: Kohekohe prefers a sheltered position with fertile, well-drained soil and consistent moisture while establishing. It is well suited to coastal and woodland-style settings and benefits from protection from harsh frosts.

Wildlife Friendly & Ornamental: Providing year-round foliage, unusual winter flowers, and valuable habitat for native wildlife, Kohekohe is both an attractive landscape plant and an important part of New Zealand’s native flora.
